Hand Made Oriental Mosaic Chess Boards

Mosaic working steps: The mosaic is very old handcraft in Damascus, usually not marked by large factories but made by families on small workshop. The mosaic process start by join different kind of colored wood (Peach Wood, Rose Wood, Lemon Wood, and Walnut Wood) on different shapes together by Arabic glued to make very gorgeous geometric shapes as a one piece with a length of 14”. The sliced step start after the dry of the Arabic glue by sliced the large piece to thin layers 1/8” thinness. The different shapes of layers puts all together by special glue on the solid wood. After hours the high quality mother of pearl inserted on special space designed before. Special materials used by hand to make the mosaic layer with mother of pearl smooth ready for final finish step. The polishing step is very difficult and sensitive because it give the piece the magnificence. Mosaic marking steps needs professional craftsman that have special abilities and skills.
