عندما كان لبنان يرزح تحت الاحتلال العثماني. حيث تعيش عدلا (فيروز) مع جدتها في ضيعة مجد الديب. وكانت تنتظر يوم خطبتها من حبيبها عبدو، وفي طريقه لشراء محابس الخطبة، قبض العسكر العثماني على عبدو، من أجل أن يعمل بالسخرة في تقطيع الحطب.
ذهبت عدلا لتقتفي أثره، قادها البحث أخيراً إلى ضيعة عمتها عين الجوز، واكتشفت هناك أن عمتها والمختار (نصري شمس الدين) يساعدان في مقاومة الاحتلال، وأن ابنة عمتها زمرّد (هدى) واقعة في حب عسكري لبناني هو سليمان، الذي يخدم في الجيش التركي
